Students may declare a History major at any point in their academic career, however, the earlier you declare, the sooner you will begin to develop the writing and reasoning skills that mark a good historian. Please see the information below regarding declaration options and materials needed to declare the major.
A current DARS report will be required for appointments, walk-in hours and Group Declaration meetings. You will need to request a DARS at least 3 days prior to your appointment in order to have the report prepared in time.
The DARS report is an excellent advising tool and will greatly facilitate your advising session. You can order a "what-if" History DARS by doing the following:
- Log on to My UW.
- Go to the Student Record page.
- On the left hand column, click on the “Student Center” link.
- On the Student Center webpage, look at the left hand column and click “View My DARS”.
- Type in your UW NetID and your password.
- Type in your campus ID and select “Get Plans”.
- Scroll down to the What-If audit options at the bottom of the page and click selection help.
- Under “Find Programs” there is “Degree Program Name,” click on the tab below it and scroll down to the “History Major: College of Letters and Science-Bachelor of Arts: BA 499” and click “Select Program”.
- If interested in Honors in the Major scroll down to "Advanced Features" find the "Honors Options" field and select "Include Honors in the Major".
- Scroll down to bottom of screen and select “Apply Rules” and then select “Submit ‘What-If DARS’”
- On the following screen, select “Submit Audit” and then “View Audits”.
- Your audit should appear on the following screen within 30 seconds.
