History Graduate Profile: Harper Donahue, IV

I graduated from UW-Madison in 2003 with a degree in History.  While completing my undergraduate studies I worked part-time for the UW-Madison PEOPLE Program in multiple capacities including: Math Instructor, On-Site Lead and a Community Liaison.  Following graduation I began working full-time for the PEOPLE Program as an Outreach Specialist.

In 2005 I embarked on a career with The City of Madison in the Department of Civil Rights as an Equal Opportunity Analyst.  As an E.O. Analyst I monitored personnel activity, oversaw the City of Madison’s Language Assistance Program, coordinated the City of Madison’s AASPIRE Internship Program and provided internal and external training on a plethora of Civil Rights related issues.

In 2006 I was promoted to the position of a Civil Rights Recruitment Specialist.  In this role I work closely with all city departments to enhance recruitment strategies through outreach and education.

Skills and tools acquired from UW-Madison’s History program constantly prove advantageous to me throughout my professional journey.  Fundamental skills such as the ability to efficiently and effectively conduct research, think critically and to communicate effectively through writing are essential tools to my work that were cultivated through UW-Madison’s History Program.
